Scout Clean Energy (Scout), the Colorado-based renewable energy developer-owner-operator, proudly announces the signing of a Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with AdventHealth for a substantial 90-megawatt (MW) allocation from Scout’s Heart of Texas Wind Farm. The collaboration is poised to deliver a considerable 380,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy annually, catering to approximately 40% of AdventHealth’s total electricity requirements.
Michael Rucker, CEO and founder of Scout, emphasized the project’s broader impact, stating, “Scout’s Heart of Texas Wind Farm is a testament to the transformative potential of Texas wind energy, contributing not only clean power to the grid but also fostering economic growth within local communities.”
Situated in McCulloch County, Texas, the 180 MW Heart of Texas Wind Farm comprises 64 towering wind turbines standing at 300 feet each, benefitting 18 landowners. The wind farm’s output, equivalent to powering approximately 67,000 homes, aligns seamlessly with Scout’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
Rob Roy, Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for AdventHealth, highlighted the significance of Virtual Power Purchase Agreements in addressing climate change swiftly. He stated, “Reduced emissions enhance the health of our team members and the communities we serve.”
Owned and operated by Scout Clean Energy, Heart of Texas is part of Scout’s impressive portfolio, boasting 1,000 MW of operating and under-construction wind assets and a pipeline of over 19,000 MW of wind, solar, and storage projects across 22 states.
Marisa Farabaugh, Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer with AdventHealth, expressed pride in the agreement, underscoring its status as one of the largest among U.S. health systems. This groundbreaking deal not only advances AdventHealth’s environmental goals but also actively contributes to the growth of renewable energy.
In addition to the environmental benefits, Heart of Texas engages in vital community support through tax incentive agreements with McCulloch County, McCulloch County Hospital District, and Lohn Independent School District. The anticipated economic impact is estimated at an impressive $36 million over the project’s lifespan.
