In response to California’s ongoing homeowners insurance crisis, the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.) has expressed strong support for recent legislative actions aimed at stabilizing the availability of insurance and protecting homeowners, particularly those impacted by the recent Southern California wildfires.
The CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.) issued a statement applauding the proactive measures announced by state policymakers to address the crisis, which has left many residents without coverage in fire-prone regions. “As Los Angeles grapples with the aftermath of devastating fires, which have destroyed homes, businesses, schools, and entire neighborhoods, we are encouraged by the decisive actions taken by state leaders to address the insurance crisis,” said C.A.R. President Heather Ozur, a REALTOR® from Palm Springs.
The association has been actively collaborating with state leaders since the crisis began. C.A.R. has voiced its support for Assembly Bill 226, which was introduced by Assembly Insurance Committee Chair Lisa Calderon and Assemblymember David Alvarez, with backing from Speaker Robert Rivas. This bill is designed to offer clarity and stability for homeowners who hold policies with the California FAIR Plan, which provides coverage for high-risk properties.
Additionally, C.A.R. backs Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara’s decision to impose a moratorium on homeowner insurance policy cancellations in high-risk areas, offering further protection to California residents.
C.A.R. also continues to support the California Department of Insurance’s “Sustainable Insurance Strategy,” which aims to eliminate barriers to accessing coverage, particularly in areas vulnerable to wildfires. This comprehensive strategy will be key in ensuring that homeowners, particularly in high-risk zones, have reliable access to insurance moving forward.
“We remain committed to working closely with government leaders to find solutions that will ensure all homeowners have the insurance coverage they need,” Ozur added.
C.A.R. has been a leader in California real estate for nearly 120 years, representing over 200,000 members dedicated to promoting professionalism within the industry.
