SWS Medical, a leading Chinese manufacturer of blood purification and dialysis solutions, is expanding its footprint in Africa as it prepares to participate in the 2025 African Association of Nephrology (AFRAN) Congress, set to take place in Tunis, Tunisia from April 15 to 18.
The company, already the top exporter of dialysis machines from China to the African continent, has over 2,000 machines installed across more than 30 African countries, including Kenya, Morocco, Tanzania, South Africa, and Libya. In 2024, SWS held a 15.9% share of China’s dialysis equipment market, which rose to over 27% by early 2025.
As part of China’s broader “Health Silk Road” initiative, SWS has also been involved in transferring medical technologies and training healthcare professionals in countries like Mauritania, Niger, and Ethiopia. Nearly 100 machines have been deployed across these nations, in collaboration with Chinese pharmaceutical firms and in alignment with the World Health Organization’s 2030 goals for chronic kidney disease (CKD) treatment.
