Siemens Gamesa has won turbine orders for two wind projects in Vietnam totalling 165 MW. One of the wind projects will be constructed near shore, a local media reported.

It has signed contracts to supply SG 5.0-145 turbines for the 75-MW Tan Thuan nearshore project and the 90-MW Thai Hoa. It is reported that Tan Thua and Thai Hoa are working with Siemens Gamesa for the first time.

In March, Siemens Gamesa announced that it will supply 25 SG 4.5-145 for one of Vietnam’s largest wind farms. The Hoa Thang wind farm with a total capacity of 113 MW will generate enough electricity to meet the demands of more than 240,000 Vietnamese.

Richard Paul Luijendijk, CEO of Siemens Gamesa’s Onshore business unit in Apac, said in a statement, “With an accumulated installation of 101 GW, Siemens Gamesa can leverage its global expertise and footprint to partner with Hoa Thang Energy to develop one of the largest wind farms in Vietnam. As market scale and financing are helping to unlock potential in Vietnam, we are committed to supporting our Vietnamese customers to accelerate the penetration of renewable energy and bring clean power for generations to come.”

Siemens Gamesa has been expanding into Asia Pacific markets since the 1980s. The company has installed more than 8.4 GW of onshore turbines in China, Pakistan, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand.
